The Jones Act is a federal maritime law that governs the legal rights of commercial mariners injured in the course of their employment. Experienced maritime attorney and former engine room officer Tim Akpinar covers some of the important elements of the Jones Act that apply to maritime employees who suffer injuries or illness as a result of an accident at sea or other shipboard condition arising from negligence or unseaworthiness. Legal remedies include pain and suffering, lost wages, and medical expenses, those last two elements also known as maintenance and cure. Tim also addresses how the Jones Act differs from state and federal workers’ compensation laws. Because the Jones Act applies to vessel crew members, it differs from the Longshore & Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, which gener...

http://www.bowersoxlaw.com Jones act cases and maritime law don't apply solely to people who are injured in the course of work on open water. They apply to a worker who's on a dock if they normally spend a significant portion of their time in open water, it can also apply to someone who doesn't work at all on a boat but is in fact a guest or simply a passenger on a boat that's in navigable waters. If you're injured in an accident on open water, that means any kind of major river, the ocean, whatever, you need a lawyer who's experienced with Maritime Law and Jones Act Law to investigate your case and to tell you what your rights are.
If an employee is injured on a commercial fishing boat for work, he or she may possibly sue their employer. The employer is strictly liable for any injuries including pain and suffering, if the boat is deemed un-Seaworthy. What is this? What does it mean? Find out more here and at www.lawcherin.com.

In this session, JOC Group will explain how they've begun creating online data portals and platforms by unifying disparate data sets and creating visualizations that once existed in hundreds of time-intensive spreadsheets across many of their customer organizations. JOC Group will illustrate how Tableau has transformed the marketplace by providing at-a-glance and easy-to-understand data visualizations that both ask users questions and eventually lead to answers and action plans. This session will discuss the transition from providing raw data in spreadsheet form to actionable intelligence that requires no data manipulation on the customer side, thereby allowing customers to spend time on making informed business decisions and not questioning and updating data. This is a paradigm shift in t...

America and the Courts featured oral arguments in the April 3 case of SeaRiver Maritime Inc. v. Norman Mineta. The case centers on the right of the Exxon Valdez to return to Alaska's Prince William Sound where 11 million gallons of crude oil spilled in 1989. Two years later Congress passed the Oil Pollution Act prohibiting any tanker that has spilled 1 million gallons of oil or more from entering Prince William Sound. SeaRiver, a subsidiary of Exxon, argues the law is unconstitutional. The case reached the 9th Circuit on appeal from the U.S. District Court in Alaska. Lyndon and Helga LaRouche address a Seattle-area conference, July 23, 2016. Since the “Brexit” vote, the breakdown of the transatlantic system has accelerated, with the bankruptcy of Deutsche Bank as the greatest signal of this impending doom. Europe, the United States, and other nations of the transatlantic now have only one option: to join the new paradigm of “win-win” cooperation, expressed by the interconnected projects of the New Silk Road (One Belt, One Road) and the Eurasian Economic Union. If the United States and Europe do not choose to work with the leading nations of Eurasia, Russia and China, then the world faces extinction through thermonuclear war.
